 Product Description

Papua New Guinea Kimel A Estate Papua New Guinea has two main coffee production zones, both in highland areas. There are many smaller coffee production areas across the country in different micro-climate and geographic conditions. The main areas though are Mt Hagen in the Western Highlands and Goroka in the Eastern Highlands. Both present different cup characteristics. The Kimel plantation was first established in 1974 by an Australian named Bobby Gibbs. Now it is fully owned by the traditional landowners, the Opai. They being the main tribe in this area. The estate is located in the Western Highlands in the Wahgi Valley approximately 50 Km south of Mount Hagen, near a small town called Banz.

Kimel Estate is 100% tribal, clan and village-owned and 100% of all profits are returned to the traditional landowners. It provides permanent employment for them and their families. It houses the vegetable patch for the majority of the 500 permanent workers. Further, there is a high percentage of shade and bird-friendly trees across the plantation. The water comes fresh and unpolluted, straight off the surrounding mountains. Pulping wastes are reused as fertiliser and any machine drying uses the coffee bean husks to heat the drying pans, although natural sunshine is the main source of drying production.
The elevation of the estate is 5,200ft above sea level and the soil is mostly rich sandy loam. The temperature ranges from 6 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius and the annual rainfall is approximately 260 to 270 mm.

Here is a plantation that produces PNG’s finest coffee bean. It neither looks for nor needs somebody else’s accreditation and labels. The Kimel people simply want us to enjoy their fine coffee product and afford them a future, where that future is the outcome of their own labours..
Papua New Guinea Kimel A Estate coffee is sweet-toned, delicate aroma with butter notes and hints of chocolate and Mediterranean spice. Even sweeter in the cup, still delicate but rich, softly acidity and quietly complex with distinct floral notes and a crisp, subtle fruit that suggests Riesling table wine or perhaps black currant. The fruit notes turn toward cocoa in the long, continuing sweet finish. Simply a big rich full flavoured to enjoy over and over again. Highly recommended.BUZZ Coffee now sells its entire range of specialty blends and single origin coffee online.
